loved by Angel Islington Locals
Tucked just off Upper Street on 54 Islington Park St, London N1 1QL, little bat bar is a cocktail spot with seriously good small plates. It’s close enough to Angel for a spontaneous drop-in, yet it still feels like a proper neighbourhood hideaway.
Inside, it’s low-lit, with music that nudges the night along rather than shouting over it. Service is warm, so you get that “welcome back” feeling even on your first visit. It’s been open since March 2016, and that steadiness shows.
Meanwhile, the pedigree is real: it’s from Richard Wynne of award-winning Callooh Callay, and the food is curated by James Cochran. So, come hungry as well as thirsty. For example, start with Carlingford oysters (there’s a happy-hour deal), share the fried chicken with scotch bonnet jam, then pivot to a freezer-door martini when the conversation turns to “just one more”. In addition, vegan-friendly plates like padron peppers and a watermelon salad make it easy to please a mixed group.
